'The Mile of La Cala de Mijas' gathered again more than 200 athletes around this family event which promotes the practice of athletics.  La Cala de Mijas town centre became the main track on Saturday afternoon with an excellent sports atmosphere. This was the second race in the Circuit of Popular Miles of the Municipal Sports Games.

Minutes before the competition, the last numbers were handed out in the organisation area and the children, many of them for the first time in the race, and their parents were finalising all the details before the start. The first of the female U-8 races started with the participation of athletes from the schools of El Chaparral, El Olmo, and mainly from the ‘Club Atletismo Mijas’. From then on, the U-8 male, U-10, U-12 and U-14 races followed one after the other. From U-16 onwards and up to masters, there were joint starts for both men and women. 

The councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), attended the entire race: "it is a family race, there are more athletes than in Las Lagunas in the first race, perhaps because those from the schools also joined in, from the youngest to the masters category".
