There was plenty of food, music and a feeling of brotherhood and happiness among all those present

The Danish Club of the Costa del Sol followed the live broadcast of the coronation of the new King of Denmark, Frederick X, on Sunday 14th of January. The Danish Consulate in Málaga organised this event, which took place at the club's headquarters, located in Mijas, in the Haza del Algarrobo urbanisation.

It was a historic moment for Denmark, because after 52 years as queen, Margaret II abdicated in her firstborn, her son Frederick, who signed his ascension to the throne before the expectation and the attentive gaze of the entire Danish community. In this regard, the founder and honorary member of the Danish Club, Jens Erik Gylling, said that "Danes living abroad and anywhere in the world feel more Danish, even than those who live in their own country, so today we also live this day with great emotion".

The people who attended the event at the Danish Club wished Frederick X of Denmark all the best in his new career, who from now on will be in charge of representing the oldest monarchy in Europe. "I have always thought he is a really nice person, always smiling at people, speaking very politely and respecting everyone equally", said Diana Sejr, secretary of the club.

The Danish Consul in Malaga, Marisa Moreno, who was present at the event, also had words of affection and admiration for Margaret II, who unexpectedly officially renounced the Danish throne in her traditional New Year's speech. "She has an enormous popularity rating, more than 80 percent, because she has been an approachable, modern, jovial, innovative queen... She is a person that all Danes recognise, respect and love, regardless of their ideology", she stressed.

Thee councillor for Foreigners of the Mijas Town Hall, Mario Bravo (PP), also attended this celebration, showing his support for Denmark, which he said is "a very well organised country, has a constitutional monarchy and serves as an example to many countries in Europe for its stability, its comradeship and its seriousness in facing the challenges of this world", recalling that "the Danish Club also celebrates here in Mijas and with great pride the national day of their country, the 5th of June".

Denmark has a population of about 5.5 million inhabitants. In the area of Andalusia and Extremadura alone, there are around 35,000 Danes living here, mainly on the coast of Malaga. Of these, around 800 are registered in Mijas, which is home to one of the oldest Danish clubs in Spain, operating for almost 43 years.
