For the last few days, Camino Molino de Viento in Las Lagunas has been open to traffic, after having been completely remodelled through the 'Mancomunado' Investment Plans (PIM) of the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol. The president of the supramunicipal entity, Manuel Cardeña, and the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), visited the road this Monday to check the work carried out, accompanied by the councillor for Works and Infrastructures, Juan José Torres Trella (PP) and the councillor for Town Planning, Lourdes Burgos (PP).  

The work has included the complete renovation of the water, sewerage, electricity and telecommunications supplies along the entire stretch, as well as the paving, signage and street furniture. "The street now also has up to six new parking spaces, fourteen trees, and two new ecological island platforms that will replace the traditional containers, visually improving the area", said Mata, adding that "the same aesthetic has been maintained as has been used every time a street is renovated, because we must insist on this common vision of the municipality, without differentiating one area from another, offering the same quality supplies to all citizens". 

For his part, Torres Trella stressed that these works have greatly improved the accessibility of the area "because this road was a two-way street, lacked a pavement on one side while on the other it was not wide enough, so it has been decided to leave it as a one-way street, in this case downhill, and to do the full turn around using the back part of the aquatic park".

The works have involved an investment of almost 780,000 euros, which pertains to the 2022 Joint Investment Plans. "Of this budget, there is still a remainder that Mijas will have to decide how to invest", said the president of the Mancomunidad, who also indicated that "this project defines the objective of the Association very well, which is none other than to help the municipalities to improve their services". 

The mayoress of Mijas took the opportunity to thank Cardeña "for supporting Mijas, not only with this project but with many other issues that we have in common, and we must continue to work together for the good of the municipality". 

Forthcoming actions

During the visit, the problem of the drought was also discussed, as well as the measures being considered by the Mijas Town Hall and the Mancomunidad to guarantee the water supply in the municipality, especially in the outlying areas. "The mayoress is already working with the public company Acosol and the Mancomunidad to find solutions and we hope to report soon on these new developments, but what I can say is that for Ana Mata this issue has been a priority since the first day she took office, because Mijas has a large population and we must guarantee a proper supply", concluded the president of the Mancomunidad.
