The equine therapy classes at the Mijas Town Hall have a new protagonist: Romera, a brown mare donated by the Lions Club to the local administration.
The councillor for Sports, Tamara Vera (PSOE), wanted to thank the club “and especially Wynson Beswick, former president of the club, and Brenda Meredith, current president, for this beautiful gesture that will allow 80 users from Mijas, including adults and children, to continue improving their quality of life through equine therapy.
In this regard, the councillor stressed that this therapeutic alternative “has numerous benefits for those who use it, not only physically, correcting bad posture and improving reflexes, but also emotionally, increasing self-esteem, enhancing memory and the ability to concentrate or reducing anxiety, among others”.
The equine therapy classes offered by the Mijas Town Hall, through the Sports Department, are held from Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 1pm and from 4pm to 7.30pm.
In total, there are five horses available to improve the physical and mental health of the users who arrive weekly at the Mijas Racecourse to receive their lessons.
Following the death of one of the horses last year, the Lions Club, a group of foreigners with close ties to the people of Mijas, knew from the first moment that “we had to make a donation for the children”, stated Max Bejerano, one of the friends of the Lions Club, who explained that “we had to spend time looking for a while because we knew that it had to be a very sensitive animal and, in the end, happily, we found Romera”.
