The Town Hall is extending the number of places on the senior citizens' trip

  • This measure is aimed at those who were initially left on the waiting list
  • The mayor of Mijas, Josele González, and the councillor for Senior Citizens, Tamara Vera.

The date of the trip for this shift is yet to be determined, the Council for Senior Citizens will contact the applicants in the next few days

The mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the councillor for Senior Citizens, Tamara Vera (PSOE), announced that the number of places on the annual trip to pay tribute to the elderly organised by the Town Hall has been increased. This measure follows the great success of this year's initiative for which, initially and as on previous occasions, a total of 1,500 places were offered (500 per shift). "The increase in places that is going to be made is precisely for this group of elderly people who meet the requirements, who are already registered in the Department for the Elderly," said the councillor, who added that "for them we are going to make this special shift, which we will try to arrange as soon as possible, depending on the availability of the hotel to specify the dates".

In this regard, Gonzalez said that in the coming days the Department for Senior Citizens will contact these people to inform them of everything related to this new shift, which "is launched thanks to the commitment of the Department for Senior Citizens with the elderly of our town, so, in recent days, we have been looking for solutions to this situation so that no elderly person is left without going on this trip" and recalled that "this is the first time this has happened since the trip is carried out and, therefore, we wanted to offer a solution.

Regarding the process, the mayor pointed out that "the solutions are not easy, they are not as quick as we would like, but it is true that our commitment is to do things well, to guarantee that the service is provided with the same quality as the rest of the shifts and that it complies with all the safety measures, which is why we are looking for the best solutions".

First three shifts

On the other hand, the first shift of this trip will leave next Wednesday with 500 seniors from Mijas Pueblo and La Cala; on Saturday 30th, the first shift from Las Lagunas will enjoy this experience and, from Tuesday 3rd of October, the second shift will do so. "The main objective is that our seniors enjoy themselves and have a good time, we want everything to go as well as last year's trip, so that when they return home they come back with good memories", said the councillor for Seniors, who recommended that the elderly who are going to enjoy this experience over the next few days "wear comfortable shoes and clothes and do not forget, in case they need it, to bring their medication".
