On the occasion of the Mijas Fair, the Department for the Environment wants to go for a more sustainable and cleaner fair and launches again an initiative for the reuse of plastic cups. It will take place during the daytime fair and the collaboration of the public is requested.
Less pollution, less waste, more recycling and a cleaner environment. These are the objectives of the new initiative by the Department for the Environment during the Mijas Fair. The Council is going to distribute 5,500 reusable cups, as it did at the La Cala Fair, during the daytime fair so that people do not use so much plastic at these events. According to the councillor for the Environment, Nicolás Cruz (PSOE), "with this small gesture, incorporating these cups at the fair, we are trying to raise awareness. We want to encourage the people taking part in the fair to use the same cup for each drink if it has the same content and is individual".
The cups will be distributed at the different bars where drinks are purchased, are made of reusable material and come with an inscription so that everyone knows that they can be used several times. The collaboration of all citizens is requested in order to generate less plastic waste during the fair.
In addition, the Department for Street Cleaning is going to reinforce the collection points for plastic containers to improve the cleanliness of the environment and the recycling of this material.
