Generation D, an initiative to bridge the digital divide

  • This statewide campaign aims to improve the digitalisation of citizens
  • The campaign will reach 600 villages in Spain

Today, Tuesday 27th, a mobile unit was parked next to the Town Hall, from 10:00 to 13:30

RTVE is committed to the Spanish Government's Generation D Pact through different initiatives. One of them is the launch of six mobile units that will visit 600 municipalities throughout the country over a period of 10 months. It is worth remembering that in the European ranking of digital skills we are in seventh place and one of the objectives of this pact is to reach 80% of the population. "We want to break the digital divide, after the pandemic we have seen how people have been a little lost and we want to guide them because now almost all procedures can be done online, from a doctor's appointment to getting one at the Treasury", said the monitor, Celia Morillas.

Last Saturday the mobile unit arrived in Mijas, and was also at the Mijas Town Hall this morning, from 10am to 1.30pm. "We have several activities to make it dynamic, we have an 'escape room', a bingo 'La Oca' game, we have a virtual assistant, a giant 'smartphone' and a registration area", said Morillas.

In addition, visitors can access an offer of more than 500 courses or, as they have called them, Iniciativas D. "Once they register, we explain how to access the courses and then at home they look at them calmly and access these initiatives", and if they complete more than 20 hours, they are given a certificate so that they can include it in their CV.

Generation D is a state initiative to raise awareness about the need to develop the digital skills of Spanish citizens and to break the digital divide.
