The Mijas Town Hall is asking for 12 years' special disqualification from public employment or office for the former mayor of Mijas and PP candidate for the municipal elections, Ángel Nozal, for the so-called 'Sobresueldos' case, in which he allegedly committed a continuous crime of administrative prevarication, according to sources from the Town Hall itself. Another 12 years are also requested for his predecessor in office, socialist Antonio Sánchez, who is alleged to have committed the same offence.

The newspaper 'El Mundo' reports that, according to the provisional qualification and accusation presented by the Town Hall, Nozal and Sánchez would have authorised the payment of bonuses to several municipal employees, so that, allegedly, between 2009 and 2014, the Mijas Town Hall would have suffered a financial loss of around 700,000 euros. It is also mentioned that, "after the investigation, the prosecution considers it accredited" that the then treasurer and auditors " had been perceiving additional salaries", which the Law considers incompatible, as it prohibits the receiving of salaries from two public paymasters. Therefore, they would have been paid by the Mijas Sports Board "without the right to this" and "for non-existent duties". More than 20 years in prison and 90 years' disqualification are requested for the investigated.

Investigated in the Cajero case

The newspaper also reports that Nozal has another open procedure related to the property management company he founded before becoming mayor and which is now managed by his partner. According to the newspaper, in the complaint filed by the neighbours of a community of owners in Cabopino (Marbella), "Nozal is listed as the representative of the community in a rental contract for a common space when he was already involved in politics" and the amounts stated as income for this rent do not coincide with those agreed in the contract. The ownership of the payment account is unknown. Nozal will testify as defendant in this case, known as 'Cajero', on the 5th of June.
