At 00:00 hours on Friday 12th, the electoral campaign for the next local elections, to be held on Sunday 28th of May, got underway. The groups running for office in Mijas, with the exception of Por Mi Pueblo, began the campaign with the traditional pasting of posters.

A total of ten parties and coalitions are standing for election in Mijas: Partido Popular (PP), Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE), Ciudadanos (Cs), Vox, Con Andalucía Unidas Con Mijas, Adelante Andalucía, Alternativa Mijeña, Por Mi Pueblo, Partido Animalista con el Medio Ambiente (PACMA) and SoydeMijas. 

Mijas is the second municipality in the province with the largest number of parties running in the elections, behind Málaga city, where there are twelve. In these elections, 49,924 people are called to the polls in the municipality.
