The roundabout is being built in front of Venta la Morena and will have five branches, one of which will connect with the future Grand Park of Mijas

The first deputy mayor and councillor for the department for Infrastructures and Works in the Mijas Town Hall, José Carlos Martín (Cs), reported this week on Tuesday morning on the status of the work currently being carried out on the widening of Camino de Campanales, which is 65 percent complete and will allow the new roundabout at Venta de la Morena to be opened to traffic in mid-May, following the Labour Day ‘puente’ (long weekend).

“We are working on the final touches to this roundabout with the intention of being able to open it to traffic in a few days and improve road safety, although work continues on the section that heads towards the Talc Factory”, announces Martín, who adds that “in this way, the most dangerous curves and the lack of visibility will be eradicated, providing road safety in such a conflictive area as far as traffic is concerned”.

“The two most important elements of this project have already been completed. We have carried out a major hydraulic development project in the area in order to ensure that the flooding problems in this zone that happen every time it rains will no longer occur” adds the deputy mayor.

The budget for this first phase of the widening of Camino de Campanales has amounted to 2.1 million euros and, in addition to the building of a roundabout and installing the rainwater frame, the lanes will be widened and it will become a connection point with the ‘Gran Parque’ in Mijas.

“Camino de Campanales will continue to be closed to traffic which means that drivers will have to use Camino de Coín as a direct alternative route, where the circulation of vehicles will be improved once the new roundabout is open to traffic”, concludes councillor Martín.
