The government team will take to the next plenary session in April, to be held this Friday 28th, the creation of the Local Public Administrative Agency of Sports of Mijas which will manage “ public sport in the municipality, eliminating the outsourcing that was implemented a few years ago”, explained the mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE). Among the items to be included in the agenda of this ordinary session is the proposal for the creation of this agency “which will replace the current situation of sports management”, said the mayor. “With this approval we will close a complicated and difficult chapter in the management of sports in our municipality, but we must also break a lance in favour of each and every one of the sports monitors because, despite the fact that they have been in a situation of uncertainty regarding the management, at no time has sporting activity been harmed by this situation; They have been professionals, they have responded to their duties and obligations and I would like to thank them for this”, added the mayor last Wednesday 26th when he announced the creation of the new agency at a press conference, together with the councillor for Sports, Andrés Ruiz (Cs), and representatives of the employees.

Subrogation “I think this is an important step to ensure that sport in Mijas continues to be managed by the pure and simple public management that we want, I think it is also an important step to ensure that there are qualified personnel working in sport in Mijas, which is what we want from the Sports Department”, said Ruiz, who added that this step “includes the subrogation of workers, professionals specialising in various sports disciplines and who currently provide their services in the town. Once the creation of this entity has been approved in plenary session, a procedure will be opened to provide the agency with a budget so that it can operate, in addition to creating the necessary structure for the direct and public management of sport in the municipality. All of this will provide coverage for the workers, who have welcomed the setting up of this new agency. “We have been with the current government for four years, but we have been behind for longer than that, since we went on strike and so on. After a lot of work, it seemed that it was not going to happen, we had a slight setback and finally they signed in extremis, they have kept their promise and we are overjoyed because it is the first and fundamental step for the Public Sports Agency to be presented in the plenary session on Friday”, explained Iván León, CCOO trade union delegate at Eulen, who also discussed the next steps to be taken: “Following the session, the government team will have to carry out all the procedures until the subrogation of all the employees is completed and we will enter with all the same conditions that we have but now with a direct job with the Town Hall”.

CCOO assessment After demanding last Monday 24th the creation of the agency, CCOO congratulated the workers of the two companies subcontracted to carry out the sports services in Mijas, Serveo and Eulen, on Thursday 27th, through its Federation of Citizen Services in Malaga. “From CCOO we value very positively that this Town Hall has followed the direction set and defended by this union for more than five years”, said the representative of CCOO in Serveo Mijas Natación, Francisco José Fernández. The union pointed out that after years of struggle, the objective pursued by employees, the works council and union representatives has been achieved.
