The volunteers of Soroptimist International Costa del Sol have once again shown their most supportive nature, this time collaborating with another group from Mijas, the ‘Asociación Nueva Cultura para el Desarrollo’ (New Culture for Development Association). On Monday afternoon they went to their headquarters, located in Calle San Braulio in Las Lagunas, to deliver a batch of 600 litres of milk, which will be distributed among some 140 families in Mijas at risk of social exclusion. 

As the secretary of ‘Nueva Cultura para el Desarrollo’, Rosa Planelles, explained, "in recent weeks we have noticed that we were lacking basic necessities such as milk, pasta, pulses and oil, basically because European funds are now limited. We spoke with Soroptimist and they immediately did everything possible to help us, because it is not the first time they have made a donation". 

Soroptimist's president, Daphne Theunissen, stated that "prices are going up all the time with the war in Ukraine and the economic situation we are in, and many families are finding it hard to make ends meet, especially when they have low incomes". 

Soroptimist Costa del Sol's charitable activity does not end here as, currently, the members of the group are also raising money to help the victims of the earthquake in Turkey two months ago, they continue to collaborate with the ecological workshops promoted by the association ‘La Alegría de la Huerta’, without forgetting their involvement in the aid to foreign women victims of gender violence. 

In this regard, the councillor for the Department for Foreigners at the Mijas Town Hall, Arancha López (Cs), also present at this donation, stressed that "the Soroptimist volunteers are always willing to collaborate in all the social and non-social initiatives promoted in the municipality and we are very grateful for this in the department and, once again, we congratulate them for the great work they do in Mijas"
