The Mijas Town Hall already has the draft of this project, which includes the widening of the lanes

Mijas continues to become more interconnected. The Town Hall now has the drafting of the project for the road that will connect Camino de Coín with the urbanization La Sierrezuela. This was stated last Wednesday the 1st, from Avenida Suiza (Mijas Golf), by the councillor for Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), who said that “this is an important project, from the point of view of the work, because it will split different sections along the entire stretch, with two-way lanes and two roads and it also provides for an improvement of all infrastructure, sanitation, rainwater network, street lighting.... Above all, it will allow all the neighbours of El Coto and La Sierrezuela to use this alternative road to connect with different areas of the municipality and vice versa”.

Martin added that “this new route will allow the residents of La Sierrezuela to have better access to the west of the urban centre of Las Lagunas leading to one of the main roads such as Camino de Coín”.

According to the councillor, the project has, ‘a priori’, an investment of 4.8 million euros and an execution period of 8 months. “Now we will begin the analysis of the study, to seek funding, to obtain the land until we have the capacity to be able to tender the works”, added Martín.

The provision of this project is that it will extend over approximately 1.3 linear kilometres, will transform the road of Avenida Suiza and the road to La Manzanilla, which is now made of gravel, and has a roundabout at an intermediate point, “which is an important improvement, not only from the point of view of road traffic, but also for the safety of pedestrians, and users of this area”, said the councillor, who hopes that throughout this year all the obstacles can be solved to obtain the necessary land to develop the project and tender the works next year.

This project in its first phase involves the improvement of the sewerage and rainwater network,  as well as the street lighting and the rest of the channeling. “We are going to make the current two lanes wider, more spacious and two-way, as well as creating parking spaces and pavements that did not exist until the moment. In addition, the new roundabout will regulate traffic and provide road safety in the entire area”, said the deputy mayor of Mijas.

As regards the second phase of the project, the entire road will be built from the roundabout to La Sierrezuela. “This connection with Camino de Coín will facilitate transit for the residents of this area and also for those who live in El Coto, because they will have access to an alternative road. This road also benefits the residents of Mijas Golf. Finally, these urbanizations will be interconnected, avoiding traffic congestion in narrower streets”, added councillor Martín.
