The vibration produced by the string on the bow when the arrow is released towards the target is the gesture that favours the drainage of lymphoedema. This is not only supported by scientific studies carried out on women suffering from breast cancer who have undergone a mastectomy, but also by the users of this programme, which has been running in our municipality for six years thanks to the Town Hall, the Mijas Hunters’ Association and the AECC, who corroborate this. “I have been in this programme since it started and after finishing the first six weeks the diameter of the lymphedema arm had lost a little over a centimetre, and that is quite a lot”, says Teresa Tiana, a participant in the programme.

Also, one of her monitors, Félix Moreno, has seen the improvement in his students: “They even notice how the contour of the arm decreases between 3 and 5 centimetres”. More than 60 women benefit from this programme, which once again is financially supported by the La Cala Lions Club. The Lions are delighted to be able to help in this cause, as stated by their president, Wynson Beswick, who along with other members of the club, presented a cheque for 1,400 euros to the AECC to support the programme: “I am very impressed by the camaraderie amongst them. Well done to the club, the hunters and the people associated with it. We at La Cala Lions Club are very happy to be able to help”. Both the councillor for Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting and Fishing at the Mijas Town Hall, Arancha López (Cs), and the vice-president of the AECC Mijas-Fuengirola, Paloma Gómez, expressed their gratitude for this gesture. “Once again we would like to thank the Lions Club of La Cala for this gesture of solidarity by making this donation so that this group can continue with their activity”, said the councillor. For her part, Gómez said that “this is a very necessary step for the rehabilitation from lymphedema and we often need resources that sometimes we don’t have”.
