Among other jobs, plumbing and leakage repairs have been carried out, as well as masonry, painting and gardening work

C.B./I.P.J.P. The councillor for Education, Mariló Olmedo (Cs), visited the Tamixa school in Las Lagunas on Wednesday 28th December to take stock of the work carried out by her department in the infant and primary schools in Mijas during the first term of the school year. In this regard, the councillor explained that the municipal operators who make up the Education team carried out from September to December up to 198 maintenance and improvement actions in these centres, in areas such as masonry, plumbing, painting and gardening. Among the works, Olmedo highlighted that, “ interestingly, in this first quarter many water breakdowns have been detected”, being of special importance the repair of the leaks that were found in the gymnasium of the Jardín Botánico school. Likewise, “all the gardens in the schools have been pruned and cleaned, playground goalposts have been repaired and pavements have been improved”.

  • During the last three months, numerous maintenance tasks have been carried out

The councillor also valued the work of the caretakers, who attend to the families, teachers and students of the different schools in Mijas on a daily basis, as well as carrying out many other tasks, “because they take care of the orders that come in for the canteen, analyse the drinking water, keep the playgrounds clean and carry out small repairs as they arise, such as changing a door knob, a light that has blown or a tap that doesn’t work”. Olmedo took the opportunity to thank the dedication and effort of the entire Education department, “essential to respond to the maintenance needs that are transferred by the management teams of the schools in Mijas”, noting finally that “our schools require special care, from the smallest to those with more than 1,000 students, through the newest or those who have been there for more than 40 years, but the only thing we want is that our children can enjoy their school hours as they deserve, in the best conditions”.
