National Police officers from the Motril Narcotics Group, the Fuengirola Organised Crime Group and the Organised Crime Group I of the General Commissariat of the Judicial Police have dismantled a criminal organisation operating from the Costa del Sol and the Costa Tropical, which was dedicated to cultivating, processing and sending large quantities of marijuana to northern Europe. Of the five men arrested, four have been imprisoned and charged with the alleged offences of drug trafficking, membership of a criminal organisation and electricity fraud.
The investigation into these events began last March, when the Narcotics Group of the Motril Police Station discovered the existence of a marijuana plantation inside an industrial building in this town on the coast of Granada. At the end of May, a raid was carried out which succeeded in dismantling the aforementioned installation. During this search, the police arrested the owner of the warehouse and seized more than 450 marijuana plants in an advanced state of development.
Arrest in Mijas Costa
Continuing with the investigation, at the beginning of November, the agents dismantled a second plantation in a flat on the coast of Granada, resulting in the seizure of another 130 marijuana plants and the arrest of a man. Furthermore, the investigation centred on several homes located in Mijas Costa culminated in the arrest of another three men, all of them members of the criminal organisation under investigation.
Criminal organisation
The organisation that has now been dismantled was characterised for carrying out the integral management of drug trafficking, as its activities ranged from locating and renting farmhouses and rustic houses in isolated places on Granada's Costa Tropical to develop large-scale marijuana plantations there, to the processing, storage and shipment of the processed marijuana to northern Europe. The members of this criminal organisation had established their residence in luxury urbanisations in Mijas Costa and were being investigated by the Organised Crime group of the Fuengirola Police Station. In order to make it difficult for police officers to locate them, these individuals used rented vehicles with falsified documentation. On the other hand, the material necessary to develop the plantations was acquired by this organisation in various industrial estates near the capital of Malaga.
Five arrested
The detainees have been charged with the alleged offences of drug trafficking, membership of a criminal organisation and fraudulent use of electricity. The judicial authority has already ordered the imprisonment of four of the detainees. However, taking into account the documentation seized, the investigation continues and further arrests in relation to these events are not ruled out.
