Last Friday, the Las Lagunas Theatre hosted the ceremony to commemorate the festivity of the patron saints of the Local Police, the archangels Saint Gabriel, Saint Raphael and Saint Michael, which is celebrated every 29th of September, paying tribute to the daily work carried out by the officers, who are always on the lookout for the safety of the residents of our city. The ceremony, which was presided over by the Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), was attended by representatives of the security forces of the Local Police of Mijas and other neighbouring municipalities, the National Police, the Guardia Civil and the Court of Fuengirola, who were responsible for presenting the awards to the officers.
The mayor addressed the police officers, defining them as "professionals dedicated to their duty and the work of public service who give their best in every call to make our city safer and safer. Congratulations, for the actions you carry out every day, for making the safety of others prevail over your own, as these are all acknowledgements that come after several particularly difficult years". González highlighted "the rigorousness, closeness, proximity and empathy of the force, which dedicates its life to the work of public service and which is on the front line of battle and always present".
This year, the number of arrests has increased, as well as the number of regulatory files and other operations, which make the Local Police of Mijas a more efficient body. "With these figures. the development of Mijas is clear and also that the Local Police force is at the height of our municipality, with the best resources and an excellent level of training of agents", said the chief intendant of the Local Police of Mijas, Juan Manuel Rosas, who added that "for all this, I can only congratulate you and thank you for your effort and dedication and for making Mijas a safe place, both for its citizens and for those tourists who visit us, this being a fundamental pillar of our municipality".

Decorations and congratulations
The Mijas Local Police commemorated the festivity of its patron saints by recognising the work of different officers. Some 50 police officers have been honoured for their work. Raquel Ruiz received the Police Merit Cross with blue badge for her service over 30 years. The officer said that "I have many good memories, but the best memory I have is that of my colleagues, working in an atmosphere of comradeship, this is the best thing, we are a team and that is very important, I'll keep that".
Juan Alberto Jaime, Salvador Romero and Rafael Velázquez received the Cross of Police Merit with white distinction for their service over 20 years. And nearly 50 officers were congratulated for their involvement in various important actions this year. Among them, Pablo Narváez, who pointed out that "this is the first acknowledgement I have received as an officer and I feel very proud to be recognised for the work one does". His colleague Daniel Castro also felt "very proud and very happy with these distinctions, which have not only been for me but for my whole group of colleagues. Without them, we could not have received this recognition, as companionship is vital in this type of work".
During the ceremony, plaques were also presented to colleagues who have retired this year and there was a special mention for the group of US police officers belonging to the Crisis Intervention Programme known as the Memphis Model.
And it was not only these officers who were honoured today, a resident of Mijas, Santiago Daniel Labourdette, was also congratulated for his collaboration with the police in an intervention. His wife, Analia Tribbia, received the recognition.

Valuations
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the municipal corporation, who have highlighted the value of the public service work carried out by the officers of the Mijas Local Police. In this sense, the first deputy mayor of the municipality and spokesman of the Municipal Citizens Group in the Town Hall of Mijas, José Carlos Martín, said that "it is important that these awards are made, which were already approved in plenary session and from here my thanks for the work they do in a vocational, selfless and very professional way and highlight these awards to agents who have served for 20 and 30 years without having any problems in their record". 
For her part, the Councillor for Human Resources and member of the PSOE Municipal Group of Mijas, Laura Moreno, said that "we will always be at the disposal of the Local Police, making available to them all the measures that the local administration has so that they are in optimal working conditions and coexistence because in the end they are a big family that must have all the means at their disposal and, from here, I just want to congratulate the decorated agents and those who have received these special mentions for the work they have been doing". 
From the Popular Party Municipal Group, Mario Bravo called for the reinforcement of the Local Police Force with more officers: "We want to thank the Local Police and let's all be concerned about increasing the number of officers at least at the same rate as the population of Mijas is increasing. It is important that this year, when eight officers are retiring and only four positions have been replaced, that we pay attention to this fact". 
Finally, the non-attached councillor Juan Carlos Maldonado wanted to "put in value the dedication they show from the point of view of their professionalism and also humanity in their service to all the people of Mijas".
