On her world tour, the Ecuadorian Amazonian women's representative Rosa Awananch Taish took part in the VI Ibero-American Summit of Local Gender Agendas, which took place last week in Barcelona. Rosa Awananch Taish was invited by the association ''Círculo de Mujeres Casa Luna'' to come to Mijas on Wednesday 24th, in collaboration with the Mijas Equality and Diversity Department.
According to the 'Círculo de Mujeres Casa Luna', Silvia Mengíbar, association president, "Rosa is a great activist for women's rights. She has been working for women for a long time, based on her knowledge and ancestral wisdom. In reality, we call ourselves the new world, the most modern world, but we have lost a lot, the wisdom, the culture, and they have been able to maintain their roots, feed off it, and pass it on from generation to generation".
Awananch belongs to the Shuar cultural nation and is a recognised spokesperson for the women of the Ecuadorian Amazon. She has a long career as a lecturer and active leader of the Amazonian Women's Network of Ecuador and has participated in various national and international summits and forums. She currently holds the position of vice-president of the Decentralised Autonomous Government of Morona, actively participating in her community's political life and defence of their rights.
Awananch said, "I have participated in this world summit, VI Ibero-American Summit, contributing my indigenous woman's wisdom. We are guardians of life, territory and knowledge. It is our economic development contribution but from peoples' and nations' points of view, who also have to get involved. We bring our cosmovision as we consider all people one human being, with one feeling and one spirit.
During her visit to Spain, she took part in a women's politicians summit to reflect on the challenges of the women's political agenda, parity democracy, and gender equality. Also, her experience from the municipality on sustainability and climate change and citizen participation. The Equality and Diversity Councillor, Natalia Martínez (PSOE), said she was "very pleased to have the visit of this great woman here, who was invited by UN Women, as everyone knows, an organisation that works worldwide for women's rights. Knowledge and wisdom, a pleasure to have her in Mijas and share an afternoon with her. From the Equality Department, we always support and lend a hand to all our associations and, in this case, it is ''Círculo de Mujeres Casa Luna'' who proposed the activity, and we are with them".
