Work begins on Bobadilla Street and its connection with Almáchar Street

  • The work includes the exit lane from the dual carriageway improvement, and creating two branches to access Avenida de Mijas and the roundabout at the end of the motorwa.

Works have "neighbourhood approval", a four-month completion period and an investment of 600,000 euros

After the complete Almáchar Street renovation, the works have now reached Bobadilla Street and its link with the previous one, where basically the same action will be carried out. The Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the Councillor for Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), confirmed this Friday. "The works include a complete change of sewage networks, public lighting, greater energy efficiency, the renovation of telecommunications and the pavement where barriers will be removed. We will also do away with the cul-de-sacs in both streets that prevent the traffic", said the Councillor.

The works also include the improvement of the exit lane from the motorway next to the area. "We worked with the Roads Department for some time. These works include increasing one lane on the access from the dual carriageway to Avenida de Mijas. We usually occupy both lanes, so those who drive to Fuengirola via Avenida de Mijas can enter directly without waiting in line. It will improve the traffic flow at the access to this roundabout junction and, in particular, it will improve safety," Martín points out.

Thus, the Councillor explains traffic is going to be restored in the area: "it will be a ring, a circuit, in which they will enter from where the ambulances are and exit in this direction in Almáchar Street. Bobadilla Street will also change as 061 will move to the planned location next to the water park, so the street will gain width and will be recovered for the residents of the area".

  • According to the government team, works were planned with the residents approval.

Action has the neighbours' support

These works were subject to the Roads Department approval and residents' permission. In the Councillor's opinion, " We've had several meetings with them. We have even asked the residents and adjusted the work to what the majority demanded. When carrying out work, we look for the neighbours' agreement and the environment's improvement. These works are not a whim, but a necessity".

The renovation, the Mayor points out, will respect green areas and what was agreed. "In no case neither Almáchar nor Bobadilla street join directly with the Avenida de Mijas or the motorway. In addition, we seek to preserve environmental safety and reduce the situation many residents of the area are experiencing. We also want to make it clear that the Almáchar Street green area at the end of the street will remain intact," said González.

These actions have a completion period of four months and a budget of around 600,000 euros. The Works and Infrastructures Councillor took the opportunity to "ask for patience and apologies for the inconvenience that the works may cause to all the residents affected, but we are sure that they will like the results once the improvements to these roads are completed".
