The development of this area has involved the creation of new roads, 2,000 parking spaces, and 60,000 metres of green spaces

The urbanisation work on the new residential area 'Parque Las Lagunas' will be finished in about a month and a half. It was reported, on Tuesday 27th September, by the Councillor for Town Planning, Andrés Ruiz (Cs), who also pointed out that these works have included the creation of new roads, parking spaces and up to 60,000 metres of green spaces between Camino de Coín and Avenida de Andalucía. All this through the so-called Junta de Compensación, constituted by the owners of this land and supervised by the technicians of Mijas Town Hall Urban Planning", specified Ruiz.

"This area has undergone a great change and is an example of the sustainable model we want to implement in the municipality. We find large green spaces, no roundabouts or traffic lights, which also favours a good circulation of vehicles and the traffic decongestion of the Camino de Coín," explained the Councillor.

According to Ruiz, this new building area in Las Lagunas will also stand out for its easy access and parking. It adds 2,000 surface parking spaces between Camino de Coín and Avenida de Andalucía. "We want to give quality life to those who choose to live in this area but also to the rest of the citizens of Mijas, as we offer large green and recreational areas, and we believe that this is the structure and design that a town should have," argued the Mayor.

Among the new roads built are the Benajarafe and Algatocín streets. They are already open to road traffic, and the new lane that will reach the Islas Marianas roundabout ". Everyone heading towards Parque Miramar can use this alternative route instead of going directly to the roundabout, and with that, we will relieve the traffic at this point".

The 'Parque Las Lagunas' Compensation Board has invested 15 million euros in these actions. According to Juan Manuel Barea, president of the entity, "there are still some 5 million euros left for external works such as an overflow tank, a connection to the electricity substation and the widening of Islas Marianas".

The Town Planning Department reminds us that in this expansion area of the centre of Las Lagunas land has also been set aside for the future residence for the elderly, the emergency school (which will house a new fire station), and land for future subsidised housing.
