According to the Tourism Department, the forecasts for September are also good

Mijas beat its own historical hotel occupancy record this summer, with an average of 90.4 per cent during July and August, ten points higher than the data recorded last year and a slightly higher figure than in 2019, when the pandemic had not arrived yet. These data come from the Tourism Council. According to the Councillor for Tourism, hotels in the municipality worked at full swing. Stating "it is a balance that we can describe as excellent, above all, for a municipality with a strong tourist character like ours, and that reflects that, despite the period of pandemic and restrictions we have gone through, Mijas is largely recovering," said the Councillor.

Once again this year, national tourism was the most numerous during the summer months, reaching 40 per cent of the total number of visitors, followed by the British, 26 per cent, and the French, 11 per cent. "We have to continue in this line, looking for sustainable tourism. The data that we put on the table today show that the work done in Mijas has been successful and that our tourism industry continues to work as clockwork," he said.

Looking ahead to the coming months, Martin also recalled that the imminent opening of the La Zambra hotel increases the number of hotel accommodations in our municipality, "something that will undoubtedly help to break the seasonality, increasing the arrival of visitors throughout the year.

The Tourism Councillor highlighted the advertising campaigns launched by the department to attract nearby visitors, such as the Selfie Route. "It was echoed by the Nutella brand and has allowed the Mijas image to be present in many establishments in Spain, making it one of the favourite places to visit in southern Europe". Also, Martin added that our municipality has also been recognised, this year, as the Rural Tourism Capital of Malaga. The well-known tourist accommodation website eBooking highlighted Mijas "as one of the fastest growing destinations last year, increasing its searches by 69 per cent".
