The Mijas Town Hall Education Department keeps cleaning the 12 schools in Mijas before they return to the classrooms in the summer holidays. The work is being carried out these days on the schools' exteriors. During the summer months, "all kinds of tasks have been carried out so that schools are in perfect condition to welcome the children", said the Councillor for Education, Mariló Olmedo (Cs), during her visit to CEIP María Zambrano in Las Lagunas. She added that "we have been preparing the schools all summer, there are only a few days left, we are now with outside corridors, railings and, above all, these tasks are being carried out using water pressure so that they release any dirt. Some schools are quite large and need a whole morning to clean them. We also have to point out the interior cleaning, curtains, bathrooms, walls, common areas, all ready for the children".

Outside, pressurised water, brushes and disinfection products are used for all areas, both pavements and railings. The patios' cleaning is carried out every three months. According to the Serveo cleaning service manager, María José Pérez, "currently, hoses and pressurised equipment are being used to clean the courtyards. We have been doing this for six years. We know the schools well. We have nine cleaners who sweep and blow leaves, and we also clean the inside of the water boxes. We thank the Town Hall and the whole cleaning team for their work, as the most important thing is the children," concludes Pérez.  

On the other hand, the Education Councillor also pointed out that some of the schools' fronts, especially the older ones, have also needed extra cleaning. "It has been hard work, as the facades of some schools were in poor condition due to the wind and weather, so it had to be painted. Some of them are already 40 years old, and it is true they needed maintenance," explained Olmedo.
