High temperatures on Sunday in our area did not stop fans from having a good time at the Feria de La Cala. In fact, many locals and visitors took advantage of this last day of the seafood fair, marking the day fair's atmosphere and, at night, the La Húngara and Kiko Veneno's performances. "It's been a long time since I've been to La Cala, and I didn't know the day fair, only the night fair, but I was surprised", said Cristina, one of the attendees. Paqui, a resident of La Cala and member of the Lozano family, said that "we are enjoying a lot here in the Torreón, and then we will go to the fairgrounds because it's a tradition to go on the last night to eat churros to say goodbye to the fair''.
Throughout the day, the Torreón square was full of people coming and going, ready to have a good time at the fair, dancing to the 'Rompeolas Orchestra' and the Malaga band 'Mr. Proper'. "We are delighted to participate in this fair and to see that the people respond so well", said Andrés Reina, the vocalist of Mr Proper, a band that plays classic Spanish pop, and rock songs.
With such good music, it was easy to choose the 'Marchoso and Marchosa' (The Fair party-goer) of La Cala. This year's winners were José Antonio Rey and Loli Arroyo. "I lost my voice on the first day as I have not missed either the day or the night fair", said Loli, as did José Antonio, who described "the Feria de la Cala as the best in the world".
La Húngara was one of the artists in charge of closing the Cala Fair, and she did so by filling the Municipal Stand with loyal fans. During her concert, Sonia Priego, better known as La Húngara, went through her entire discography, including some of her greatest hits such as 'Mi Manué' and 'La Niña Bonita', singing bulerías for the enjoyment of her audience. "I feel delighted to be here in this town, and it was a great joy when I entered the stand and saw so many people queuing up. That is a great pride for any artist, at least for me", said the singer.
Kiko Veneno, the great artist, staged La Cala's final concert. He gave the audience a night to remember with his traditional songs such as 'Lobo López' and his new compositions.
Fair Balance
As happened in Las Lagunas just a month ago, the Feria de La Cala has experienced five intense days full of music, and a good atmosphere, both during the day and at night. The old and young alike have enjoyed the big days of the seaside location, and the Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the Councillor for Fiestas, Tamara Vera (PSOE), did not want to miss it. Last Saturday, they went to 3.40 Television's set at the fair to take stock of the festivities in La Cala de Mijas.
"The truth is that we are happy to see the fair with so much life. It fills you with happiness after these two so-hard years and especially, seeing the main street with these new evenings. The Festivities Department also wanted a beautiful fair decoration", stated González. Vera expressed, "great joy to see it like this, not only at night but also our day fair because I must say it has a great atmosphere".
As the Mayor and the Councillor stated, "visitors from the province and outside the country are attending the fair". They will continue to support it yearly, so it remains a benchmark on the Costa del Sol's summer. "This fair will continue to grow. We continue to support it so that it remains important in the context of the Costa del Sol, and it is clear that the more we invest in this fair, the more people will respond, and this year has been no exception. It will have to be valued by La Cala and Mijas residents and those visiting us. I think it has been a great fair", Vera added. "We have worked very hard to put together a line-up for our fair that will surprise our neighbours. There are a variety of musical tastes so that everyone can enjoy a day at our fair". Undoubtedly, the result of all these days is the satisfaction for the work done thanks to the collaboration of the different departments of the consistory, "the truth is that it is very pleasing to look at the stand, to see the stand full of many people enjoying", concluded the Councillor.
Mijas Comunicación has been offering from Wednesday 27th to Saturday 31st a daily live broadcast from La Cala fairgrounds. Tonight at 10 pm, you will watch on Mijas 3.40 Television a summary of everything that happened during the Sunday.
