The Malaga Regional Blood Transfusion Centre's mobile unit will stop next to the Hipercor in Las Lagunas. Until Wednesday, 22nd June, from 10 am to 2 pm, from 5 pm to 9 pm, you will be able to donate blood. It will arrive in Mijas Pueblo on Thursday and Friday 24th, next to the Town Hall, in the afternoon, from 5.30 pm to 9.30 pm. "We have a great blood shortage in the Malaga province, taking into account also the large hospitals’ number, and the large influx of people who live here on the coast," warned the centre's doctor, Javier Ruiz.
This Monday, the Mijas Town Health Councillor, Candela León (Cs), visited the mobile unit, assuring that "blood donation is essential. There is more and more demand at the Transfusion Centre in Malaga, and now comes a busy time when the population multiplies with the increase of tourists and foreign residents. Therefore, the demand will be greater, so residents must come to this mobile unit to donate blood".
The requirements to donate "are minimal, and the donation time is short, between 5 and 10 minutes", says Ruiz, who adds that "you simply need to be in good health, and be over 18 years old, mainly".
Drop by drop challenge
The company Re-Max is collaborating with the InmoSolidarios club to encourage donation and help transfusion centres by organising the 'Drop by drop' challenge. "Each person who comes to donate can get a 20 euro discount on AquaMijas tickets, and donors will also get a five euro discount per person when buying a ticket at the box office, with a maximum of four people," said León. So don't hesitate, and come and donate blood, as the reserves are, like this precious liquid, in the red.
