More than thirty authors of different genres, book presentations, book signings, and other literature-related activities were the focus of the Mijas Book Fair, which was held for the first time in the San Valentín Square in Las Lagunas on 29th and 30th April. An event with which the Department of Libraries took literature to the streets to give prominence to writers, encourage the purchase of books and promote the habit of reading among young and old. On Friday morning, the official inauguration was held by the Mayor Josele González (PSOE), the Councillor for the area, Natalia Martínez (PSOE), and the presence of authors such as Laura Benavides. So, these days are good for us as many people usually pass by”. Marisi Morales, the author of six books, including novels, short stories, and poetry collections, was also present on the fair first day. She said, “I think it is interesting, considering that almost all the authors participating in this fair are from Mijas”.

Besides, the Mijas Reading Club took advantage of the event to hold its monthly meeting in this open-air space. Carmen Trella was one of the authors who presented her book on this day, where authors such as Juan Carlos Toribio and Antonio Nadal also signed copies.

After the opening day, the Book Fair continued on Saturday 30th, with more book presentations, signings, and activities, such as a children’s painting workshop in which children of all ages participated.
