Operational Services improves access to the El Puerto quarry

  • This area is used as a car park during the summer and events
  • The work has involved an investment of 30,000 euros.

Asphalting work has been carried out, a platform has been prepared and the lighting has been reinforced

The Operational Services Department has improved El Puerto quarry access which is used as a car park at times of high tourist influx, such as the celebration of events, Easter or in July and August. According to the Mayor and Councillor responsible for this area, José Carlos Martín (Cs), "we are already preparing for Easter, and one of the complaints we had was the state of the quarry access lane. We were asked for a new asphalting, and we have also added the refurbishment work that we are going to do in the area with lighting improvements, etc.".

The work includes the asphalt renovation, with an investment of 30,000 euros, the preparation of a parking platform and safety improvement in the whole area, with lighting and signs for a more fluid people and vehicles transit. "What we want is that those who come to park, have all the comforts and the greatest possible security", according to Martín.

  • These works will improve safety in the area.

The asphalting will be finished next Monday, and the rest of the work will be carried out during March. Everything will be ready, for next Easter, to offer a safer users’ area. "Both in our Easter Week and summer, we hope to increase the visitors' number. With these initiatives, we cover the parking problems when the Virgen de la Peña car park is full", says the Councillor, who adds that "in this way we facilitate the tourists' arrival to the town. This measure affects directly to consumption and the shops and restaurants’ economy in the town".

Martin has also valued the tourist entities' forecasts such as Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol, which through the 'big data' predicts a summer "like the one before the pandemic in 2019, for our city".
