Due to the high number of COVID-19 infections, the Public Roads Department of Mijas Town Hall is adding an exceptional extension to the terraces, which was already done in the first instance until 31st December this year and which, on this occasion, will be extended for two more months, until 28th February 2022. A measure that was born when the country was plunged into a state of alarm to "promote interpersonal social distancing" in the terraces of bars and restaurants, said the councillor of the department, Nicolás Cruz (PSOE).
Thus, the owners of "those establishments which had accepted the extension of their terraces", said Cruz, "will only have to send a communication stating that they want to take on the extension by email to viapublica.todos@mijas.es". On the other hand, those businesses that had not applied for this extension or were not authorised, "will have to formalise the application form and send it to the Public Roads Department through the entry register or via the electronic office", he added. The Councillor also informed that the deadline for applying for the extension of the terraces will be from 3rd to 12th January.
Payment of occupation fees
The council informed that as of 1st January 2022, the fees for the occupation of terraces will be reintroduced. "Up to now, the occupation fees had not been applied, neither in 2019 nor 2020, as they were suspended" due to the health crisis, said the Councillor. However, from the first day of 2022, this occupancy fee will be charged again. "It should be taken into consideration," continued the Councillor, "that one of the criteria that we are going to be applied, and which appears in the ordinance itself, is that the sum of the surface area of the permanent occupation and the occupation of this extension does not exceed 1.5 of the surface area of the establishment".
