Green light for sewerage connection works in Mijas La Nueva

  • With both actions, these areas will no longer be connected to the sewage treatment plants.

Infrastructure announces that the project has already been approved by Roads and Environment, so the works will be put out to tender in early 2022

The councillor for Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), announced on Thursday 2nd that the project to connect the sewage network in the area of Mijas La Nueva already has the approval of the Environment and Roads so that in early 2022 the works can be put out to tender for an amount of approximately 400,000 euros. “This action is linked to the project to connect to the municipal sewerage network of La Alquería, which already has the sectoral report from the Environment and is in the absence of the one from Roads. Both parallel actions will allow the residents of these two rural areas to make a great leap in the quality of life by having these infrastructures”, said Martín, who pointed out that “while the second section is being processed, the first will be put out to public tender and, once both are completed, these areas will no longer be connected to the two sewage treatment plants of La Alquería. These pipes reach the point of the sewerage network where the wastewater is discharged into the sewage system.

According to the Mayor, this will eliminate the problems caused by the WWTPs in the area and install sewage networks. Thus, although they are separate projects, they are connected for the same purpose and can be developed simultaneously. In this regard, it should be noted that the first of these is the one relating to Mijas La Nueva to La Alquería, which has a collector of 315 millimetres in diameter and a length of 1,300 metres with an investment of 400,000 euros. “This pipe connects with the one in La Alquería and will remedy the problems caused by the treatment plant in this area, where there is the deficient treatment of wastewater due to lack of proper maintenance of the installation over the years,” added the Councillor.

Connecting the projects

The second project, the one referring to La Alquería, also has a 315-millimetre diameter collector and a route of 3,320 metres with an investment of 2.7 million euros and will be connected from the confluence with the Mijas la Nueva pipeline to the municipal sewage network located in the vicinity of the motorway, thus linking both rural areas.
“Although they can be executed independently, both projects complement each other and are necessary for the connection to the municipal sewerage network. Both collectors, which will operate by gravity, open the door to the development of this area and represent a before and after in the quality of life of the neighbours”.
