The Foreigners Department of Mijas Town Hall will offer an informative talk on the Brexit process and its first effects on the British population resident in Spain on 23rd November. The event will take place at the Mayor’s Office in La Cala from 4 pm and will be completely free of charge, although to attend the event it will be necessary to register in advance by emailing frd@mijas.es. “We believe it will be a very interesting meeting for all British residents in our municipality, as we will have the presence of the UK Consul in Andalusia, Charmaine Arbouin, as well as representatives of British entities very involved in this issue”, said this last November 9th the Councillor responsible for Foreigners, Arancha López (Cs). Among the confirmed speakers will be Anne Hernández, president of Brexpats in Spain, a group made up of more than 30,000 British residents in our country, who will speak about the obstacles that these citizens are encountering during their first year of the Brexit transitional period. “We still haven’t received answers to many questions. Those with second homes can no longer stay in Spain for more than 90 days at a time, instead of 180. Many are losing their access to public health care and others are finding it impossible to come to Spain because of the requirements they have to meet when applying for a visa. said Hernández, who also thanked the Spaniards for their support “because they are the only ones who want to help us in this situation, in which we find ourselves quite abandoned”. López also invited attendees to use the department’s email address to send questions or issues that could be addressed at this conference. “We will try to answer as many questions and provide as much information as possible to all those concerns that the British have, which are certainly many,” said the councillor, also thanking “all the speakers and sponsors who will make this informative talk possible, especially the company Blevins Frank, which, after the presentations, will offer a cocktail for all those present.
