The autumn charity market that is organised in the square of the Tenencia de Alcaldía in La Cala de Mijas continues to be active. Every last Wednesday and Saturday of the month several foreigners' groups set up stands to raise funds and also to recruit volunteers because, as they recognise, there is a lot of work to be done. "We are in this market looking for people who can help us, with donations and as volunteers, we always have a lot of work and few people", said Wietse Haak, a volunteer from the Donkey Dreamland donkey shelter.
La Cala´s charity market involves organisations such as Cudeca, Cáritas, the Lions Club, Age Concern, Ace Shin, Donkey Dreamland, Mijas Felina o Soroptimist Internacional Costa del Sol, among others. "We are here to inform about our association, in other occasions we have raised money, but now we are making ourselves known above all", explained the secretary of Soroptimist, Larysa Blai, a female collective that has been fighting for women's rights in Mijas for 15 years.
In these stalls, you can find all kinds of articles, many of them handmade by the volunteers themselves. The market can be visited in the mornings, on the last Wednesday and Saturday of each month. It is an ideal place to find the gift you are looking for, while collaborating with a charitable cause.
