Works for the Rural Roads Annual Improvement Project, which started on the 3rd of September to prepare these areas for the winter season, guaranteeing its use for vehicles, have been completed. The Councillor of the Operative Services and Rural Areas Department, José Carlos Martín (Cs) explained that these works are “essential in order to prepare the area before the rainy season starts to guarantee the free circulation of vehicles and that rural road can withstand strong currents”.
These works, carried out every year throughout the over 100 kilometres of rural roads distributed around the municipality, have taken two months. Two teams, made up of heavy machinery such as bulldozers, road rollers, irrigation trucks with a capacity of 10.000 litres, a wheeled digger and a three-axle truck worked simultaneously in different areas of the municipality. According to Martín “with these works we have completed the main maintenance project and from now until next year repair works will be carried out whenever they are needed, in case heavy rain causes damage, which has lately been the case”.
Besides this maintenance project on roads, works have also been carried out along the roadside ditches to guarantee the proper evacuation of rainwater. Also, artificial gravel has been used to give roads more consistency. These works have been carried out at Puerto de los Gatos and the areas between the Urbanizaciones Torreblanca and Osunillas, reaching the access roads to Entrerríos, Valtocado, La Alquería and La Retama.
