Thanks for choosing Mijas

  • After the forced break last year, Mijas was able to celebrate Tourist Day again on the 29th as a tribute to visitors
  • The tourist appreciated this party in tribute to the sector

Once again, our municipality paid tribute to all those who are finally visiting us again

The fact that Mijas could once again celebrate its traditional Tourist Day on the 29th, after the forced stop last year due to the pandemic, is very good news. Once again, our municipality paid tribute to all those who are finally visiting us again.

This year, the event became even more special after so many limitations. Fortunately, the restrictions are disappearing and the expectations are more encouraging. “Welcome to Mijas!” was, without a doubt, the most pronounced phrase in this celebration, which took place on the Plaza Virgen de la Peña. (Mijas Village). “Today is a very important day for Mijas, a municipality that lives off tourism. Tourists are our ambassadors and, therefore, they deserve to have a day dedicated to them and for Mijas to thank them each year with a simple act for the well-being they bring to the people of Mijas”, indicated the mayor, Josele González (PSOE). “We wanted to thank the tourists and also all the business persons who have participated in the municipality”, said the councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs). At the tourist party there was no lack of singing and dancing, led by the Zambra group and singer, Ela Fernández.

For the occasion, an artisan market was also set up and the Tourist Office served sweet wine to toast all those present with the wish that soon we reach total normality and Mijas returns to what it always was.

Prizes for ‘Tapa ROUTE’ 2021

After the performances, on the stage of the Plaza Virgen de la Peña, the prizes for the ‘Ruta de la Tapa 2021’ were awarded. The mayor of Mijas and the councillor for Tourism were in charge of delivering the award to the establishment that was best valued by the participants, the Tapintxos restaurant. The cook who created the winning tapa, Rachida Elmaaroufi, excited, received a ceramic plaque. “I am very happy with the award. The tapa, a cake with both an Arabic and a Spanish touch, has been very popular among the visitors. It is an international tapa that everyone enjoys”, said the cook, with 20 years’ experience in the kitchen. Another prize was also given: the weight in beer of the winning participant in the Route, Ana María Lavado, 18 years old. Her mother, Ana María Peña, collected 46 kilos in beer cases, which she assured would be shared among friends and family. Congratulations!
