On Tuesday, the barbecues in the El Esparragal park were sealed

The Mijas Town Hall announced this week the entry into force of the prohibition of making barbecues and burning stubble from June 1st to October 15th near forest land and areas of forest influence in the municipality as stated in the Order of 05/21/2009 of the Regional Government in Andalusia, which totally prohibits the use of fire (bonfires, barbecues, agricultural and forest burning, etc.) and the circulation of motor vehicles within the entire Andalusian Community during the dates established in the high fire risk period.

The prohibitions contained in the order affects the burning of natural vegetation and agricultural and forestry residues, the use of fire for the preparation of food, if this is not carried out in camping sites or recreational areas that are equipped for it. Likewise, the circulation of motor vehicles outside the road network is also prohibited. Both prohibitions are in reference to all forest lands and areas of forest influence, which are non-forest lands (agricultural and urban) located less than 400 metres from forest areas.

Since June 1st, the use of barbecues is prohibited in public areas such as El Esparragal (Camino de Coín) because it is considered an area of forest influence, although the Los Olivos park (La Cala) is exempt from said prohibition due to its location within an urban area.

From the Mijas Town Hall, they ask citizens for maximum responsibility and extreme caution in the face of the coming summer months in which Mijas, due to its weather and environmental and natural characteristics, is at especially high risk as regards forest fires.
