The Manuel España Theatre hosts the event held on the occasion of the International Day Against Bullying

Coinciding with the International Day against Bullying, last Thursday second of May, the Manuel España Theatre in Las Lagunas hosted the awards ceremony for the I Short Story Competition 'For a more tolerant world, a world without bullying', launched by the Department for Culture of the Mijas Town Hall and created with the aim of raising awareness and preventing bullying among young people in the school environment.

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), who took part in the award ceremony, considered that this was "necessary", as it is "necessary to make visible a reality that happens in our educational centres and of which we are sometimes unaware when news like the letter that has been read out here comes to light. As a society we are obliged to pay close attention to such an essential and vulnerable part of society as children and young people", said the mayoress, who assured that the event will continue next year. "We must all work together and work hard so that these situations do not arise and try to reach as many young people as possible", added the head of the local government.

During the event, the best stories were read and awarded, with the first prize went to the young Ahitana Alamberi; the second prize went to Juanjo Campos and the third prize to Ahmed Sadiki. There were also speeches by the psychologist and guidance counsellor of CEIP Las Cañadas, Leonor Cuadras; the local police officer and tutor Ángel Blanc; the mother of a bullied child, Elena España and the president of the Association 'No al Acoso Escolar' (NACE) based in Barcelona, Carmen Cabestany, who intervened through the projection of a video. The anti-bullying rap 'Dile Stop!', written and produced by the 4th year primary students of CEIP El Olmo, was also screened.

The event was also attended by the councillors for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP) and for Local Police, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox). For the first one, the balance of the contest "was very positive". "We have seen a very high level in the stories and we would also like to thank all the people who participated", he said. For his part, Cuevas Dawson wanted to stress something: "we parents are responsible for teaching our children". Finally, the organiser of the event, Francisco Romero, considered that "the competition is a very good way of getting young people involved so that they can express themselves, open up and tell their stories".
