British resident , Anne Bowles, received one of the awards during the XVI edition of the Gala ‘Mijas en Femenino’. A woman who has headed numerous campaigns to raise awareness about diabetes prevention through the Lions Club of La Cala, founded in 2003 by her and her late husband, Frank Bowles, and who has become an essential part of many people's lives. She has worked closely with the Foreigners Department.
Her love for others led her to volunteer for many events, and in recent years she has dedicated herself to helping hundreds of foreigners with diabetes problems.
La Cala de Mijas has become her home and her big heart has become the home of many who have found a friend forever in this woman. "It is true that many women have problems to combine their life with work but I think the situation now is much better than it was before", explained Bowles, she also said that "many people contact us because they have diabetes problems and need help, then we provide them with the advice offered by our doctor".
She concluded: "Without my colleagues, I wouldn't be here".
